My Dear Doctor Grayson

Did I not feel towards you and our beloved president as I do towards members of my own family, I would not venture to to write this letter.

You will forgive me, will you not? for my doing so, in view of the published diagnoses, I venture to send you part of the original draft of the article on neurasthenia in my "Epitome of Hydrotherapy” which is now being printed by Saunders.

Please be careful with it as it is the only copy I have—Have it copied & send a carbon of the copy to me also.

As the patient is not weak, you may begin at once with the Douche, or follow Hot Cabinet short of followed by Circular Douche 20— 25 90F. 1 min. followed by Drying with friction, then sitting (out of draft) or walking in open air—Next treatment same but reduce temperature of Fan Douche one degree over (twice a day is better) so long as patient is not chilly after dressing. If this is the case do not abort the treatment, but shorten the duration and increase the water pressure until Reaction is again good—Re of skin is not necessary. Reaction is not unsatisfactory only if patient feels chilly after dressing. There is a fine Douche apparatus at the Walter Reed Hosp. But do not trust the attendant; give the treatment yourself, or let the attendant if give the treatment to several patients in your presence, before you entrust your patient to him. Do not let him use the valve to arrange the temperature. Use only the mercurial thermometer!I am convinced that those Douche followed by open air walking will make recovery more rapid.

As you know, massage (while always enjoyed by the patient) make helps the masseur more than the patient.

If the patient back, keep the ear closed, or better still wrap him up well.

Trusting that you pardon this intrusion & confident of your success I am

Yr Cordially

S Baruch
