Dearest Altrude
I have hoped every day, since getting your sweet letter from the Hot, to hear your voice over the phone telling me you were in Washington—but I suppose the Colonial Ladies proved too much for you.
Thank you for all you say about Richard—I try to think it was better for him as the Dr’s. say he would have been a hopeless invalid had he lived, for it was a terrible fracture—but such an ending to a young life—!!
I was in New York from the 14th to the 22nd of Oct. so missed you both ways—I went up to spend the week with Belle—She gave me a little cocktail party with a big cake from Sherry’s—She told me she wanted to have you—so I knew you were out of town.
So sorry to hear George is still suffering—Did you enjoy Nantucket?—The Sayre’s told me they saw you—Frank. & Betty have gone to Japan for a year—Gertrude & I have both had dreadful colds—which seems unappreciative of this golden weather—I never saw more beautiful days—With dear love
always—
