Dearest Altrude
Your letter was so welcome, but I am distressed to learn “George” is still not entirely relieved from his suffering
You wrote me in the spring he was thinking of another operation but as I heard nothing further I hoped it had not been necessary—You were sweet to think of me and wish I was away in some cool spot—but alas!! I am right here at 2340—you know Bolling Galt has been ill for months and Gertrude depended entirely on me—so of course I could not leave her. Bolling died July 21st his birthday—and she is completely bereft—I brought her ’round here at once—and she has been in bed most of the time since—I closed and gave up her apt. where they have lived nearly 40 years—and she will live here—It was a terrible job, for the weather was nearly at Boiling point most of the time—I read of the sales at Saratoga—thinking you or the boys might be there with your horses—but failed to find your names.
Mr. BB Jones was taken to the Hospital again yesterday but he was better today—So glad you are coming down later—do hope I will see you—My visit to Princeton of 1 day was the bright spot of the summer—Too bad I missed you—Love to you both
