THE PRESIDENT.

Rumor here tonight that Edward Billings to be named collector port. Billings a commercial Democrat, if a Democrat at all, and his nomination particularly at this time would be most injurious to party. His services for years back have been for hire to those engaged in effort to destroy Boston Democracy. A man of ordinary ability his nomination to this office an insult to rank and file of party.

John F. Fitzgerald,
Mayor of Boston.
