Dear Mr. President:
Referring to your note of May 11, 1917, requesting weekly reports of allotments made from the $100,000,000 appropriation for “National Security and Defense,” I have to advise you that since the date of the fifth report transmitted to you by letter of June 16, 1917, notices of your approval of the following additional allotments have been received at the Treasury Department:
Amount of allotments as reported in Department letter of
June 16, 1917--- $44,771,301.70
June 20, 1917.--To Executive, for necessary expenses for preparatory work regarding food administration, additional---20,000.00
June 20, 1917.--To Treasury Department, to reimburse the appropriation “Collecting the Revenue from Customs, 1917,” for expenses made therefrom in April and May, 1917, for guarding and maintenance of German and Austrian vessels---90,856.23
June 20, 1917.--To Shipping Board, for repairing the German steamships PENNSYLVANIA, PRESIDENT GRANT, and PRESIDENT LINCOLN, additional to the allotment of April 28, 1917---400,000.00
June 20, 1917.--To Shipping Board, for repairing and fitting out as a transport the German steamship VATERLAND --850,000.00
June 20,1917.--To Shipping Board, for repairing the Austrian steamship LUCIA recently purchased----120,000.00
Forward---46,252,157.93
Deduct:
The sum of $30,000,000, temporarily allotted to the War Department May 12, 1917--$27,000,000 of the allotment having been restored to the National Security and Defense Fund by the War Department from appropriation made for it in the War Expense Act of June 15, 1917, together with $3,000,000 unused balance of said allotment---30,000,000.00
To date, therefore, the charges against the $100,000,000 appropriation for “National Security and Defense” have been---16,252,157.93
Leaving an unallotted balance June 23, 1917, of---83,747,842.07
Reports relating to further allotments will be furnished you weekly as requested.
