THE PRESIDENT

Two hundred sixty six delegates in convention assembled in Birmingham, Alabama, representing twenty two thousand six hundred seventy eight members, United Mine Workers of America of State of Alabama, appeal to Government to assist in bringing about conference with coal operators of that State for the purpose of affecting satisfactory settlement of existing differences. Operators so far have refused to meet miners representatives. Convention decided that unless operators agreed to discuss differences on or before August fifteenth the miners of the entire State of Alabama will cease work on August twentieth. International Organization trusts you will use your good offices to bring about joint conference between miners and operators in Alabama and thus prevent threatened strike. Wm. Green, Secretary Treasurer,John H. White, President,Frank J. Hayes, Vice President, United Mine Workers of America.
