Text

Mr. President

I saw the Secretary of Labor regarding the attached telegram. The Secretary asks me to say that he has determined upon two mediators to send to Alabama to see what can be done. He has also taken the matter up with the Coal Production Committee. He knows of nothing further that can be done in the situation at the present time.

If it becomes apparent that a shutdown of the mines in Alabama is likely to ensue, the Secretary will take up the matter further with the President.
