Text

My dear Mr. President

As you may know, the colored population of the country, from a variety of causes, has been torn by rumor and ugly whisperings ever since we entered the war. Their leaders have been working with the Administration splendidly in combatting this dangerous unrest, and in order to get a working agreement and organization that will take care of this situation, and others that may arise, we have asked the negro editors of the country to come here for a three days' conference.
The Secretary of War and the Secretary of the Navy will address them, and I am very eager to bring them to you for one of your informal talks. There are about forty-five of them, all loyal and enthusiastic, and seeing you and hearing you is just the inspiration that they need. May I suggest Thursday afternoon?

Sincerely,
George Creel
Chairman

The President,
The White House.
