China & Japan

Based just on luggage labels, Dr. Grayson traveled a bit in southern China. His photographs suggest a tour in the north too. He even did some shopping, apparently, in Hong Kong.

The scrapbook itself appears to have been purchased as a completed item with dozens of photographs slid in between the pages. The original photographs from the scrapbook all appear to be from the same photographic studio in Japan and some of the pictures are staged. They are all glued down firmly to the paper of the pages. French versions of the same images can be found online, suggesting that these images were sold to foreign visitors to Japan, perhaps already assembled in scrapbooks. Still, we can be sure that Dr. Grayson traveled widely in the country as well, based on his other pictures, a tailoring receipt, luggage labels, and his handwritten list of sites he had visited in Japan.

The whole crew had quite the adventure on their trip around the world, even managing to spend some time in Honolulu on the trip back to the United States.
