Text

My dear Senator

I did look up the record of Mr. Post of Chicago before I issued his commission as Assistant Secretary in the Department of Labor, and, while it is not altogether “regular” as concerns party affiliation, Mr. Post is a man of peculiar fitness for the office to which I have appointed him. He has enthusiasm for the right things and, I think, will be of very great service to Secretary Wilson.
I am very much obliged to you for calling my attention to the case.

Sincerely yours,
Woodrow Wilson

Hon. James A. Reed,
United States Senate.
