Text

May 27, 1913.
My dear Mr. President

Since writing you yesterday I have another communication from Mr. Steffens in which he says that he disagrees with Mr. Brooks’ judgment as to St. John,– “not his facts perhaps, but his point of view”; that “St. John is loyal and respresentative”. Mr. St. John’s address is: 164 Washington Street, Chicago.
My own opinion remains that Mr. Bohn would be much the better appointment.
If you have any doubt as to the advisability of appointing any I. W. W. man, I hope you will look at Brooks’ book on “American Syndicalism”.

Yours cordially,
Louis D. Brandeis

Hon. Woodrow Wilson,
White House
