To the President,White House,

My dear Mr. President:

I received your letter of the sixteenth instant yesterday, suggesting that we exempt all persons receiving less than $3,000 a year income from the necessity of making income returns at all. The committee bill as reported to the House, exempts all those having less than $3,500 a year income. I will take pleasure in calling your suggestion to the attention of the committee.
I have also spoken to Mr. Hull about the conference with Mr. Redfield and he says that he will call on Mr. Redfield.
The vote on the wool amendment in the caucus last night, was an agreeable surprise to me. I had no doubt that we would win but we carried the point by a larger majority than I expected.
