The President,
Washington, D.C.
Final official reports received this morning show that the United War Work campaign which has been conducted at your request has gone past the goal of one hundred seventy million five hundred thousand dollars and has reached a total of approximately two hundred millions. It gives me sincere pleasure and satisfaction to convey to you first of all this encouraging information which we plan to make public tomorrow morning. Considering the many difficulties with which we have had to contend and the shortness of the time at our disposal, the fact that the largest voluntary offering ever made to an altruistic cause, has been secured, is significant; but even more gratifying than the financial results has been the great unifying influence of the patriotic cooperative behavior.
