Further from Ludendorf’s secretary. See my cable immediately preceding. “Accomplished armistice will mean new hope to Germany especially to the Prussian imperialists. We hope that negotiations will start quarrels among the Allied Powers. Allied forces are three times our strength and the damned Americans are sending fresh troops constantly.
“Ludendorf dictated, to this secretary, certain notes for his diary as his justification after the war; says that ‘What were they thinking about to appoint von Baden chancellor with his pronounced conservative sentiments and so little suited to the supple profession of a diplomat.’ “.
