Dearest Trudie

I have waited to write until I had better news concerning Mother—for each day I thought I might go back on the next boat—But todays news is so good that I feel tremendously relieved—and so can now settle down—

The books you were sweet enough to send me to the steamer—were very much enjoyed—and it was dear of you to think of me—We had a very comfortable crossing and arrived at Cherbourg at 7 am—Belle’s car was there to meet us and we had a beautiful ride of 265 miles to Paris—We are just a few blocks from “11 Place des Etat Unis” and we have passed it very often—How different the whole world seems since those days—I have thought of you both so much and do hope the children are better and that you will all have a happy restful summer—

Sunday we motored to Chartres—do you remember, Trudie, how sick you were the day we went there together?

Thursday Evangeline arrived from Egypt—& Mr. Crane turned up—looking very fit—He has gone to London & sails on Saturday—I had a note from Mrs. Wallace asking me to dinner last Sunday, but as we were going to Chartre I could not go—The Col. & Mrs. House are at the Ritz—& an interview with him in the paper credits him with saying Coolidge is the most popular President ever in the White House—
