Text

My dear Mr. President

We have a cable announcing the loss of our first vessel in European waters, a small mine sweeper, REHOBOTH. She foundered off Ushant on the French coast, but I am glad to say all of the officers and crew were saved. She was one of a number of former fishing boats which was sent over for mine sweeping, and her loss was evidently due to the weather and not the enemy. I am giving the general fact to the press, leaving out the name of the vessel and the locality.

Faithfully yours,
Franklin D. Roosevelt

The President,
The White House.

Wilson, Woodrow, 1856-1924
