Text

My dear Cousin:

I warmly appreciate your kind letter just received and wish with all my heart that I could accept the invitation of the Jefferson Club of Columbus, but it is very obvious to me now that I must stick close to my task here in Washington until the end of the present short session of Congress. I have played truant once but it would be very unwise for me to do so again. There is too much here that needs my personal attention.
Cordially and sincerely yours,
