My dear Mr. Secretary

Mr. Tumulty has handed me your note of March third, sending me the enclosed. I entirely agree with the writer. I think we would be doing a great disservice to a fine cause if we were to displace Miss Lathrop, and I had quite made up my mind that it is out of the question that we should permit anybody to push her out.
