Text

My dear Cardinal Gibbons:

Secretary Lansing has been kind enough to hand me your letter of the 27th, and I turn aside in the midst of a very busy day to say how sincerely I appreciate the personal thought of me and of the interests of the whole world at the present moment, which prompted you to write it. I beg to assure you that it carries the greatest weight.

I have formed no plans at all about what I am to do in Europe except that I am to devote every energy in me to the peace settlement, but it will give me real pleasure to have your suggestion in mind if I should go to Rome.

With very high regard,
Sincerely your friend,
[Woodrow Wilson]

His Eminence,
James Cardinal Gibbons,
408 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD.
