My dear daughter Mary,
I am sending herewith Mother's cheque for £ 45, please put it in a safe place and give it to her when she gets back home, which would be on Friday, according to the time schedule.
I am sending it now because tomorrow, Wednesday night, I am leaving for Königsberg, East Prussia, to attend a conference between Polish and Lithuanian minsters. I shall stay there at the Hotel Central until Monday night or so; at least, over the wekk end. I passed through Königsberg last December on my way to Lithuania but saw nothing of it as I was snugly tucked up in my sleeping berth. Tommorow's train leaves half an hour before midnight and I get there at 9:15 the next morning. I believe it's quite an interesting old town and I hope I shall have some time to explore it.
I was at an evening party one day last week where I met Prince August Wilhelm, on of the ex-kaiser's sons. He seems to be quite a democratic fellow for a royal 'ighness and didn't appear in uniform, and chatted away quite highly.
No doubt you will be glad when Mother comes home again although of course my dear you must look forward to some more housekeeping, as help in the house is one of the conditions of you job with the Schnürholtzes and you will have to try and get the hang of it. With that and your further studies, you will be kept busy enough. But the fresh surroundings will give a zest to life, and I have no doubt you will enjoy it all.
You will all be looking forward to hearing all Mother's adventures; I wish I could be there, and now she will have to tell them twice over, but perhaps she will just revel in it. I sent you a piece of a newspaper the other day about Nice, how all the big wigs of the earth were jostling each other there, kings, princes and millionaires galore. It would be quite amusing to watch the crowd and this is what Mother likes!
Give my love to all at home. I am longing to get a peep at you al. Its getting a long time now that I am away from home.
Your loving,
Dac.
