PIER 2, HOBOKEN, NJ
NOTICE REGARDING REIMBURSEMENT OF FUNERAL EXPENSES.
1. An Act of Congress approved October 6, 1917, provides for reimbursement of burial expenses in an amount not to exceed $100., provided death occurs while in the Service. This amount may include any reasonable expenses incurred after the arrival of the body of the soldier at his home, that is, digging of grave hearse and carriage hire, or the expense of a lot.
2. If you so desire, claim may be submitted for any expenses incurred by you as above, not exceeding $100. This claim should be made on the attached form, sworn to before a Notary Public, and have attached the bill of the undertaker, cemetery, or other person to whom money is paid, as well as the enclosed certificate signed by the undersigned. The claim itself should be made out in favor of the relative under whose direction the body is reburied, and should be sent to the Bureau of War Risk Insurance, Treasury Department, Washington, D.C., and not to the undersigned.
