The Wilson Foundation
Small contributions no less than large ones will be welcomed by the Woodrow Wilson foundation, for which subscriptions will be received this week, beginning today. The million dollars which will be raised could easily be contributed by a comparatively few persons of wealth in this country, who are admirers of Mr. Wilson, but the purpose of the foundation's promoters would be best realized by making its financial base as broad and democratic as possible. In so far as the foundation will be an enduring memorial to the former President of the United States, his personal gratification will no doubt be measured by such evidence as the subscriptions may give of a wide popular response. The foundation is exactly the kind of memorial that befits Mr Wilson’s character and public service. Although he has been the central figure of more than one dramatic situation and was cast by fate to play one of the most conspicuous roles in the greatest tragedy of war in the entire history of civilization, the former President’s message to the world is best expressed in the realm of the ideal. The foundation, through its system of annual awards for eminent public service, will provide a suitable power station for canalizing this stream of idealism down through the coming centuries of American life.
