My dear Admiral:
I received the following despatch from Admiral Bristol, which may be of interest to the President:
"Upon arrival Greek Admiral day following occupation Vice Admiral Calthorpe told him that Greece must stop violence and disorder and that Turk civilians should be release. At the (---) of Senior Naval Officer on board of Iron Duke Greek Admiral assured them that Greek authorities were doing their utmost to stop disorder and that two soldiers convicted by court martial had been shot."
which undoubtedly refers to Smyrna.
I enclose also a copy of a report made by Captain Pommerol, of the British Army, which mentions some incidents showing great brutality on the part of the Italians towards South Slavonians. I am sorry to get it to you so late before your departure tonight and if you don’t have an opportunity to read it and get the facts in mind of course it will have to wait over. I heard of the report from Admiral Andrews and he advised me to get it from the British authorities here, which I have done by the courtesy of the Director of Military Intelligence. (British.)
Wishing you a very pleasant trip to Belgium,
I am,
Very sincerely yours,
HS Knapp
