Dear Mr. President:
The people of Rome expect you about 4 this afternoon at the Piazzi Venezia. All the papers have special editions announcing it. I would suggest that you leave your carriage and ascend the “altar of the country”—the monument to King Umberto.
It is the one chance to meet the people of Rome. Baizilai, the great popular hero, will be waiting to greet you.
