Dear Sweetheart,
I am in receipt this morning of cable saying that you and Gordon are both well and happy. That news puts new life into me, as it were, I feel fine. I miss you so much and to have no word since leaving you; it is, indeed, a treat to have the aforenamed news.
These are strenuous days over here. So many calls for the President of a most formal kind, luncheons and dinners. The President is anxious to get them all through with before getting down to a working basis on the subject & object he came here for. He is certainly making the “hit” of his life, so far. The French worship him, and I am told the Italians burn candles around his picture.
Had a nice visit to-day with Ambassador & Mrs. Thomas Nelson Page. They are anxious to meet you. Admiral Andrew Long is naval attaché here, an old friend of mine, also of Adolphus. It is fine to have him here.
I meet many old acquaintances every day. The city is full of people I know.
Monday I am to go with Dr or Col. Blake of New York who is in charge of all the Army hospitals in this section, on an inspection trip. I am keeping a full diary and getting a lot of information, education and interest from being here. If you were only with me, my love, the picture would be perfect.
