Dear Admiral

The Government is about to locate a Veteran’s Hospital within the vicinity of Denton or Dallas, the same to be within one hundred miles of Dallas.

Denton was the birthplace of my cousin and your friend, the late Admiral Edward W. Eberle. It is located thirty-six miles north thirty degrees west from the City of Dallas and thirty-five miles north thirty degrees east from the City of Fort Worth, on the main line of the Missouri-Kansas & Texas Railway Company from St. Louis to the Gulf, the Transcontinental Division of the Texas & Pacific Railway Company, the Denton & Dallas Interurban and we have hardsurface highways leading almost all directions from the city, with motor bus transportation making frequent trips all of the time on all of them. We have natural gas, Texas Power & Light Electricity and Municipal electricity. Our climate is ideal for both summer and winter.

Denton is an attractive little city of about 12,000 population and it is regarded by most people who know it as a most desirable place to live. The State of Texas has recognized its merits by locating three state institutions here. The College of Industrial Arts, the state university for women, which is the third largest woman’s college in the world, the North Texas State Teachers College, which is by far the largest Teachers College in Texas and one of the largest in America and in addition to these colleges we have a State Experiment Station and a local office of the State Highway Department. The health of the community is most excellent. We have an abundance of pure artesian water, a variety of soils suitable for the productions of all kind of fruits, vegetables and other crops, a poultry and dairy industry capable of supplying unlimited amounts of poultry and dairy products, many beautiful hills and groves, a fresh water lake containing 15,000 acres of land or about twenty three square miles and a soil that never gets muddy.

It occurred to me that it would be a fitting tribute to the memory of my cousin and your friend, Admiral Eberle, a favor to all veterans who may have an occasion to use the hospital and a wise choice for the Government if the institution could be located on one of the many desirabele cites around Denton which are available for that purpose.

Trusting that you will be able to use your influence for the location of the Veteran’s Hospital at Denton, I am,

Yours very truly,

Geo. M. Hopkins
