Dr. Grayson, White House,
Washington, DC

My dear Doctor

Having been myself an incurable neurasthenic, (please note, I say having been ) I follow Presidents Wilsonos case without unusual interest. My business being that of nan electrical engineer, strenuous brainwork together with irregular living and faulty diet brought me to the binrink of the grave. Though Newark has over 500 000 inhabitants, I am pretty sure that some 50 000 know or heard of Dr Monte, the recluse, and odd old bachelor, his name is frequently in the papers usually when he has cured once more an incurable disease, He is an MD but has rejected that degree, has no license, operates an X ray laboratoriesy, though never takes an X ray for money, or would be able to do so, as all his variuos machines are always taken apart for improvements and innovations. He lives alone in a big house on High street, No 452, without servant, nobody at all in the big place except the Doctor. there he is constantly inventing new electrical machinery, I have him seen using an electrical device where he could make the part of the biody where the kidneys lay, perfectly trahnslucent and I, a layman, could discern these organs as clearly as if look looked at by open daylight. no shadow pictures, it olooked as if the skinn and muscles in front had been cut away, simply marvelous. The man would make a fortune if he would utilizes hois numerous inventions, but he does not seem to care for anything. you can make him accept a small fee. That man cured my neursthenia inside of two days with a few simlpple movements of his hands over certain areas of the neck, head and back. it is not ostoepathy, as he calls it a humbug, he stiles himself simply healer of man and beast though recently I have saeen a sign in his window, with Chiropractor on it, although he has to me long before repudiated and called there theories senseless, -- very likely the high cost of living forced him to do that little bit of advertising as is ethically permissible to physicians, that is the window sign. having no right to call humself physician, he very likely choose the next best: XChiropractor, at least that is my passumption as I have not been in his place for the last 12 month, did not need him anymore, in fact, am a well man all through since I have seen him twice, he gave me nearly two hours of his time each time, put me on special benches in different twisted positions, giving sharp blows on certain part of the body, this only and instructions a to what to eat and how to live was all he ever did to me and I am well ever since. His eating instructions are laughable, yet if I do not follow them out to the point, I do not feel as well. Now I am not the only neurathenic he got well, I know of 9 more cases amongst my acquaintances, amongst which is a dog and a canary, in both animals the doctor diagnosed neurathenya and promptly cured it. I know of two cases of incurable epilepsy, that got well under him, several surrgeons of this town send their incurable cases to him, and very likely you heard of the man already and all this is no news to you. That man could fix Wilson in a jiffy with all due respect to your authority, yet you specializye on medication, and are therefore limited to the reach and boundaries of drug action. that, man is a scholar, a discoverer, you would not loose one degree of your dignity by consulting him. the difficluty woill be to get him, his front his front door is srewed down and only unsrewed by appointment, his telephone number is not in the book so that nobody can bother him exceept the few choosen one, I had to write to him my case give my phone number, and after a little conversation over the phone consented to accept me. I was down and out at that time, have spent hundreds of dollars on the best sepcialitsts without any result whatsoever, I have had no end of osteopaths on the case, with chiropractors I bothered only ones and had enough, that fellow was to stupid to be taken seriuosly, and now my doctor has a chiropractor sign in his window, very likely a matter of law and local legislation. I have frequently send cases to him, but only very few were accepted, by mail. His rooms are luxuriuosly furnised as described to me by others, the cellar is one large dissecting room, bodies floating in tanks all over, or on marble slabs, it seems to please him to take new patients that way out and to give him a good look at that grue some mess. his office l looks like a workshop, all over machinery taken apart, and he usualy asembles them first before using them on a patient. He seems t to speak many languages, although he cliaaims to be an American, amongst the people I send to him and had accepted were an Armenian and a Turque and he could converse with them fluently, French and German people, I had accepted by him, claim that he has no accent in athyese languages and sapeaks them fluently, also Russian, Polish and Spanish. Seems to prefer foreigners, one particuliarity, he has never refused a nigger I ever send to him, and got a large fibroid tumor away from one negress and replaced a floating kidney in another one without operation. he seems to be a cracker jack with paralyzed arms and feet, and I also know of positive cures in case each, of syphilis, & tuberculosis, very advanced state, and a dear friend of mine, and I had to write to the doctor repeatedly to make him take her. He his literally haunted by people that are doomerd and he invariably refuses them, except one case to my knowledge, a young woman with dropsy beyond control, a friend of y my cured tuberculous friend, whre he could be imposed upon to treat her and prolonged her life several month, whelre several good physicians had given her a couple of days to live.

There is only one point I am afriad of: he alhates Wilson!; well I did not vote for him either, yet would not want him to suffer if there is a cure possible.

Very likely you have heard of the man, and if this only will serf as a gentle reminder of the mysteriuos doctors powers, that would be all I intented to accomplish.

very respectfully
