WEDNESDAY,
The President played his first game of golf on French soil during the morning on the St. Cloud links. He enjoyed the day very much. During the afternoon the President and Mrs. Poincare made a formal call. This we returned later in the afternoon. The President went from this call to the Crillon Hotel where he held a conference with the members of the American Mission, discussing with them their impressions of his trip to England. In the evening he departed for Rome. The Italian Government had insisted that the entire trip should be made on the Italian Royal Train, so the original plan for the President to proceed to Modane on the French train, there to change to the Italian Royal Train was abandoned. We were given the usual official “send-off” on our departure.
