My dear Cobb:
I am very much obliged to you for your letter of September fifth, and beg that you will pardon my delay in replying to it. I have sneaked off from Washington and am trying to get a little rest, and am glad to say that I am succeeding.
I would suggest that, if possible, you go into the suggestion of Mr. Victor Ridder's a little further and ascertain what particular German-Americans in New York they have it in thought to send abroad on the errand you refer to. I feel pretty sure that in any case it would be unwise even to wink at such an errand, but I would feel the more certain of my judgment if I knew the men and their affiliations. It is very generous of you to offer to make this inquiry for me. It would be serviceable in many directions.
Cordially and faithfully yours,
Woodrow Wilson
Mr. Frank I. Cobb.
