New Braunfels, Texas

Dear Mr, President
As a very hopeful sign of the times, as relates to that great class of American citizens of German parentage, permit me to briefly relate the following circumstances, occurring in this, Comal county, Texas, an original German colony, and still almost wholly composed of German born citizens and their descendents.

As a very hopeful sign of the times, as relates to that great class of American citizens of German parentage, permit me to briefly relate the following circumstances, occurring in this, Comal county, Texas, an original German colony, and still almost wholly composed of German born citizens and their descendents.

Last Friday, July, 12, I professionally attended Mrs. Carl Wuest, Jr, at her ranch home near Bracken, Texas, after the birth of the child, the question of a name for the bouncing boy was considered in connection with the birth certificate. The suggestion of Woodrow Wilson met with prompt and enthusiastic approval of both proud parents and it was "so recorded".

Many here of German birth have, as loyal citizens, given their sons to our countrys cause, but this is the first instance in this county, if not in the state, of parents who scarcely speak the native tongue to thus indicate, not only their loyalty to our government, but their love and great respect for the name of our world honored President.

Is it not a wholesome and assuring sign, especially at this time, when the names of Otto, Fritz, or Hanz, are voluntarily discarded for a purely American name?In your multiplicity of cares I naturally hesitate to intrude this very small circumstance, though its significance is of deep import, and if through your secretary you may address an approving line to this hardy ranchman and his wife it will, I assure you, be gratefully appreciated by them and,

Yours respectfully,
A Garwood, M.D.

Address;Mr, and Mrs, Carl Wuest, Jr,
Bracken,
Comal, County,
Texas.
