Text
My dear Mr. President
Newton D. Baker
The President.
I have your note of May 5th, with regard to Mr. Robert Berkley of St. Louis, a former student at Princeton University, and apparently concerned in many important matters affecting the life of the university while resident as a student. I have noted his desire to be admitted to the Judge Advocate General's corps. The number of vacancies in that corps will be slight and the Judge Advocate General is giving very earnest attention to the selection of the men to go in.
I have been a little surprised to find the enthusiasm which a number of young men have for that office and that of the Quartermaster General, since they are both non-combatant in character.
Newton D. Baker
The President.
