Text

Dear Mr. President

Chitswell -- Oxford
England

I am exercising my privilege as Poet Laureate to send you a copy of the sonnet that I have just contributed to The Times newspaper.
I wish that the expression were worthier, but you will kindly make allowance for a poet in his 73rd year, and I hope that the sentiments will have your full approval.
It is a pleasure to me to think that my nephew General Bridges, who is now on the mission to America, may be at this time having the honour of a personal interview with you.
I am with great respect
yours truly
Robert Bridges
(F.R.C.P.)

President of U. S. A—
