Text

My dear Senator Shively

I very much appreciate your telegram of the eighteenth. It has cheered me thoroughly. Indeed, the attitude of the Senators, particularly on our side of the chamber, in this matter ought to command and will command, I am sure, the admiration of the country. I have been conferring within the last few days with members on the committee of both parties and feel confident that we may expect action without further unnecessary delay.
I am delighted to know that you will soon be back. Hon. Benjamin F. Shively,United States Senator.
