My Dear Mr President

I had not seen your message to the Filipinos when I spoke with you Friday—allow me to congratulate & thank you for the promise of ultimate independence. It was admirable—just what they were waiting for. It is a great joy to me, my dear Mr. President to have this country committed to independence—it has been on my heart for fifteen years. Am glad the cabinet meetings are to be resumed—they are an intellectual treat. We are having a delightful time here—you must renew acquaintance with Ashville. Our mutual friend Seely has built one of the great hotels of the country & the environment is magnificent. With assurances of great respect etc I am My dear Mr. President

Yours truly
WJ Bryan

Linds messages have been telephoned to me—Am afraid he is too pessimistic¹
