My dear Paul,
First of all I want to send you my heartiest congratulations to your birthday! You will, no doubt, have a wonderfull time on that important day and I am very sorry that I cannot be with you and join in the fun.How is the train getting along? Have your two little friends been in to see you again?
From your good mother and Opa I hear that you are getting along nicely in school. I was very glad to hear that, Pauly!
It is too bad that you had to be so sick in bed recently and I am glad to hear from Opa that you are now quite well again.
I wish you could see all the soldiers down here, Pauly. There are thousands of them here, and lots of big tents and lots of horses. We get up very early in the morning, six o’clock, and then drill about one hour. In the evening after our work is all done, we play base-ball and other games and have lots of fun. After supper we very often see moving pictures.
Well, Pauly, I would be very glad to hear from you sometime, just a little letter, you know.
With lots of love to you, and to your mother, Opa and good little Rhoda,
Your uncle,
Otto
