Text
My dear Baker:
I have your letter of the 24th about the “Work or Fight” amendment to the Man Power Bill. I quite appreciate the fact that you urge, namely that the power exists and might almost be said to be automatically exercised without any express authorization, but it is a serious matter to put anything in the bill which will prejudice it in the view of any influential part of the public, and I am going to take the liberty, as I have opportunity, to oppose its incorporation.
Cordially and faithfully yours,
[Woodrow Wilson]
Hon. Newton D. Baker,
Secretary of War.
