CORNISH.
—On his automobile ride this afternoon President Wilson went to the assistance of three automobilists whose machine had run over an embankment and capsized about three miles from his summer home. The President was automobiling with Mrs. Francis B. Sayre, his daughter, and Dr. Cary T. Grayson, his naval aide and physician. The road was slippery from rain.
As the President’s car rounded a curve another machine was seen overturned at the bottom of an embankment. Mr. Wilson and Dr. Grayson jumped out to investigate. THey found CC Judd, Miss EA Swasey, and Mrs. Emma Hathaway, all of Norwich, VT, underneath the overturned automobile, and the President helped to pull them out. They were badly bruised and frightened, but an examination by Dr. Grayson showed that none of them was seriously injured.
The President and Dr. Grayson assisted the two women to the road. The people in the overturned automobile did not recognize the President and did not know who had helped them until later.
The Secret Service men tried to get the automobile to the road but it was too heavy. After finding that there was nothing fruther that he could do, the President continued his ride. The Secret Service men took the two women to Windsor, Vt., in another machine and sent a wrecking crew to pull the damaged car back to the road.
