In the absence of Admiral Grayson from Washington permit me to acknowledge receipt of your note of January 23rd with enclosure of copy of Mr. Baker’sletter of January 8th. Admiral Grayson is at present on a short vacation in South Carolina.

In the meantime, I wish to inform you that Mr. Baker’s letter of January 8th was received, and the reply thereto was the letter recently sent to you to be forwarded to him. As I recall there was also attached a certified copy of the death certificate of President Woodrow Wilson.
