Text
My dear Miss Newman:
Lafayette was supposed to have landed at North Island and slept the first night at Mr. Huger’s place, which lies to the north of me. It is now owned by young Vanderbilt, son of Mrs. Margaret Emerson and grandson of Colonel Emerson of Baltimore, who willed it to young Vanderbilt.
The house in which Lafayette is supposed to have spent his first night is still standing.
Yours very truly,
B M Baruch
