Text

My dear Doctor Mayo

I want to thank you for your letter of January 22d and for the interest which you displayed in Miss Willis’ case. She is most appreciative of your consideration and is apparently satisfied with the results of her visit to Rochester. I am happy to be able to report that the President is improving, although his progress is very tedious and slow. At one time the situation was so critical that if a change for the better had not taken place within a few hours you or your brother, or both of you, would have been summoned. But for the great distance and the consequent inconvenience which it might have caused you I should have called you any way. I hope it will not be necessary to call you but if the necessity arises I want the good judgment of you or your brother, or both of you. I have often talked to the President about the great work that you and your brother have done, and it has excited his admiration.

With warm regards,

Cary T. Grayson
