Text
Dear Admiral Grayson
I am deeply sorry that the Wall St.—Lodge—Knox—Harvey combination succeeded in making a newspaper fight out of this. The treachery was double because Lodge had Creel sent to do it, which was one of my reasons for wanting to quit. I feel ashamed of adding to the President’s troubles, but do not see what more I could have done.
