Text

My dearest

We arrived in London at two thirty this afternoon. The King and Queen met the President and Mrs. Wilson at the rail-road station and escorted them to Buckingham Palace in the midst of throngs of people and much grand formality. Lord Reading and many other proclaimed it to the greatest demonstration ever seen in London.

I called with the President this afternoon on Queen Alexandria—The mother of the King. When we were leaving, she said you “I would have known you from the pictures I have seen of you, and won’t you give me a picture of yourself.” As you know, I have no picture over here but will autograph and send one to her when I return home.

This Palace is the the most gorgeous place I have ever seen. It is perfectly grand. I have a wonderful suite. Large sitting room, large bed room with a bed which is enormous in size and equally as handsome. A dressing room and bath room besides.

The King and Queen are real; fine, natural and make you feel quite at home.

Princess Mary is quite good looking and nice. The Royal Coaches and the wonderful livery and perfectly matched horses caught my eye. I never saw anything as beautiful of it’s kind.

I have a coach placed at my disposal. How I wish you were here, my darling. It would then be simply complete and perfect. It is nearly twelve o’clock. I write such poor letters—but will tell you all when I return. Please in the meanwhile take special good care of my little girl. I love you more and more every day and will be so happy when I am back with you.
