Dearest Trudie
This morning I gave an interview for the President to all—about fifteen French newspaper men. About the personal side of the President etc. Then, I spent the remainder of the forenoon going over the American Hospital here—section #1—Commanded by Colonel Hutchinson of Philadelphia. There are about twelve hundred patients in this hospital. They are very interesting from a surgical viewpoint—Many of them are terrible to look at—awful disfigurements of face—To-morrow the President is going with me to see this hospital and also a French hospital.
This afternoon I went with the President to the University of Paris where I saw the most impressive ceremonies I have ever seen. The President had a degree conferred upon him. They pronounced him the one biggest man in the world. He replied in his best form and fairly carried the audience by storm of applause.
This evening I dined at a very fashionable restaraunt the La Rue. Thence to a reception at Lord Derby’s—The British Ambassadors to France—a reception to the President & Mrs. W. It was swell.
