Text

Mr. President

From a most ardent desire of seeing terminated as soon as possible the ruthless scourge which for too long a time has been afflicting humanity, we conjure you, Mr. President, by the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of the world, to take into kind consideration the request for armistice and for negotiations of peace which has been addressed to you. Divine Providence has reserved for you and for the great Republic over which you preside the immortal glory of restoring bleeding humanity to peace, which will mark a new epoch in the history of the world.

Benedictus XV.

To His Excellency,
The Honorable Woodrow Wilson
President of the United States.
