Text

My dear Mr. President

For your consideration I would suggest that, when the rank and file of the division under General Pershing lands in France, you issue a proclamation designating the next Sunday as a day of prayer for the army and navy and the success of the cause in which we are enlisted. I believe that an appeal for divine aid at that time ought to be made by every American, and, if by individuals why not by the nation?

Faithfully yours,

Robert Lansing

The President,
The White House.
