Text
My dear Mr. President
John Sharp Williams
1 encl.
I have just written a letter to Mr. Houston, Secretary of Agriculture, a carbon copy of which I enclose to you, and the perusal of which I ask, not only because of the specific request made, but because I want to call your attention to the general idea of waking the South up to the fact of the necessity of producing foods for ourselves and our allies in the oncoming war. The South was defeated in the war between the Stqates because she didn't raise food enough to feed her armies. The generation that learned that lession is, however, dead and this one must be awakened.
I am, with every expression of regard,
John Sharp Williams
