Dearest -

You left me last night with the feeling that you sternly disapproved of me - and thought me willful - I am so sorry -I did not take the ride! This is the day that you said would be full of grave anxiety for you - and that a word from me would help lighten the burden- I wish instead of a written word I could come and stand by you - ready to help in any and every way - Even if it is only to kiss your eyes and whisper I love youThis is not an “S. M. S.” but it comes near being an S. M. H. because I want to dispel any disappointment or disapproval I caused last night. Please don't worry about me in any way Dearest One - I am well - and strong and love you so that I will try to give up my nocturnal rides if they cause you an anxious moment.

I do hope the German question will take a more hopeful color today - This is your lucky thirteen, so it is encouraging - and all through the day - Sweetheart remember I am with you in my thoughtsI have just had a note from Dr. Smith of St Thomas in reply to mine -I am answering it-and will show you both when I see you. Randolph is better this morning - and all the Cordova family are coming to lunch with me -I shall see you tonight — and it will be a queer sensation to be near you - and yet so far - it will be as Browning puts it, "The little more — and how much it is—The little less — and what worlds away –"

Our love can bridge any distance Beloved and just to see you will be a joy.

Your own,

Edith
