The President:
Sir: The colored people obeyed your peace prayer proclanation last
Sunday. Now we think it no more than fair that you name a day of prayer
to stop the lynching and other outrages committed upon colored Americans
in the United States and they are the only ones who suffer abuses heaped
upon them by so-called Christians. Believing you to be a Christian gentleman
you could do no less than grant this request.
