Text

My dear Mr. Macfarland:

Allow me to acknowledge more formally than it was possible the other day when you called at my office the receipt of the several papers you then handed me.
I need not tell you how deeply I appreciate the address of confidence addressed directly to me on the part of the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America, or how greatly it adds to my sense of being supported and guided to have such feelings and confidence expressed.
I appreciate also the weight and significance of the resolutions of the Council with regard to the early recognition of the republic of China.
The memorial with regard to the assignment of the proper quota of chaplains to the various divisions of our land and naval forces impresses me very much indeed.
For all of these interesting and important papers, allow me to thank you and your colleagues.
