Text
Dear Mr. President:-
If you have not selected the Republican member of the Peace Commission, it has occurred to me that it would be wise to consider Justice Pitney of the Supreme Court. I know him very slightly- you know him well and can judge of his suitability better. My idea is that Mr. Henry White, who in many ways is acceptable, has long worshipped at the shrine of Root and Lodge and is therefore less satisfactory than some man of his own responsibility but who is an orthodox Republican. If Pitney and Brandeis were on the Commission you would have the best legal ability.
Sincerely Yours,
Josephus Daniels
